Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Class at New Prague High School
The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course is a new course offered at NPHS. The course prepares students to provide pre-hospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Here is a glimpse into what they have been learning. This past week the class has been working lifting and moving patients. There are a variety of lifts, carries and drags the students learn about and practice. We had two NPFD volunteers come in and work with the students on backboarding, putting on cervical collars and working as a small group to safely and efficiently move patients when needed. The class is showing great leadership skills and they are doing a great job working together during the physical skills days. Next week they will be working on airway management. Successful completion of this course may result in a 2-year First Responder certification certificate.
